Field Service Technician

The field service technician must have great customer service skills and be willing to take the extra steps necessary to provide excellent customer support. You must be friendly, reliable, punctual and trustworthy. You must provide high quality work and have thorough problem solving skills. The technical aspect of the job will require that you be able to figure out how things work and how they can be repaired. You must be able to perform minor electrical repairs (equivalent to replacing an AC switch or receptacle), minor electronics work (for example soldering a wire to a pin) and minor mechanical work (replace bolts and small electric motors). Diagnosis requires mechanical and electrical knowledge sufficient to figure out where the problem is likely to be. Each repair is different so you will be required to use your own judgement and knowledge and make use of reference documentation, manufacturer support and shop support as needed. 80% of the job is providing on-site routine preventative maintenance of small therapeutic medical equipment, medical and chiropractic tables and exercise equipment. This will require remembering output measurements for various manufacturers and national electrical safety standards as well as multiple procedures for calibration.A company vehicle and tools are provided. As a field service technician you will be on the road 5 days a week. Primary coverage area will be southern MA and RI. Regular but less frequent travel to other areas of New England (including CT, NH, VT & ME) will be required. The day starts early (usually around 7AM). Overnight stays are rarely required but if they are all expenses are paid for by the company. Jobs are generally scheduled two weeks in advance so time off must be scheduled in advance as well but otherwise is fairly flexible. There are certain months that are very heavy and time off is more difficult. More than a week at time is not generally going to work. The position provides 10 days of paid vacation but attempts will be made to schedule 9 longer days on the road and the 10th day off meaning that you would actually have a total of 36 paid days off every year, the equivalent of 7+ weeks of time off.
